Why China Is One of the Best Expat Destinations

Life abroad is one of the most challenging, exciting, exasperating, rewarding, and incredible experiences you can have. Add a country like China to this equation and you can easily add “most unforgettable” to the above list of experiences. A few decades ago, only businessmen travelled to the Middle Kingdom in hopes of bringing back cheaper goods, spices and fabric. China had one of the world's largest and most advanced economies prior to the nineteenth century. The economy stagnated during most of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

As China opened its gates more widely to the international community in the late 1970’s, the economy lifted again. Today, China is third on HSBC's ranking of best expat destinations.

The Syrian experience does not seem to have had a sanctifying effect on ol' Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, did it?

Of course the term "top expat destination" is pretty vague. The needs of a retiree are vastly different than, say, those of a businessman. I'd love to live in Austria, for example. But it's damned hard getting a job there compared with most Asian countries. Mexico? OK, IF you pick your spots carefully. There are sides to Mexico I wouldn't wish on even someone surnamed Clinton. Czech Republic? My experience of the Czechs has been that the Good Lord, late on the Sixth Day, hastily combined the dregs of the Teutonic and Slav peoples to create a glum bunch of mildly obsessive/introspective feckers. (Though, yeah, the women ARE good looking

    2. Syrie

    3. Afghanistan

    4. Irak

    5. Zimbabwe

After the purification of your spirit, you can find a more Saint living purpose. Become friendly and kind and

generous to most people, not harsh all the time(actually or just virtually).

Like a pearl in an oyster, China is a place which reveals little to the outside world, but well rewards the daring ones who choose the path less travelled. Now known as the world’s factory, it is common knowledge that there’s more to China than Kungfu, noodles and pandas. According to a survey of 9300 expats in 100 countries by HSBC, China is the third most desirable expat destination, just behind Singapore in second place and Switzerland in the first.

With most of the MNCs having a presence in the “Big Three” (the three cities with the largest expat communities, i.e. Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, which are mega-cities with tens of millions of inhabitants) there’s no dearth of employment opportunities for experienced professionals, . Fresh graduates with knowledge of mandarin will also have an edge over their local counterparts.
